Additional Information

FAQs

What’s in Bacon Up?

Bacon Up is 100% authentic bacon grease rendered from smokehouse bacon. We’ve added BHA, an antioxidant to keep the flavors fresh.

Should I store Bacon Up in the fridge?

There’s no need to store Bacon Up in the fridge. For best results we do recommend storing in temperatures below 80°F.

How long will Bacon Up bacon grease last?

Bacon Up remains shelf stable for two years.

Can I feed Bacon Up to my dog?

Bacon Up is not recommended for pet consumption.

Can I use Bacon Up in sweet recipes?

Bacon Up can replace some or all of the shortening, vegetable oil, margarine or butter in a variety of sweet recipes. Most people agree that adding Bacon Up does not make baked goods taste like bacon, but rather adds a rich complexity that we often refer to as “next-level” flavor. With baked goods each recipe is a little different, but a general starting point would be to replace HALF of the butter or shortening called for with Bacon Up.

My Bacon Up is liquidy, is it still safe to use?

The consistency of Bacon Up varies from solid to liquid depending on the temperature. At temperatures above 80°F, the bacon grease tends to liquify, but it is still safe to use.

Will Bacon Up make everything taste like bacon?

In most recipes, Bacon Up simply enhances the natural flavor of the food. Some customers do say it adds a delicious hint of bacon to foods like popcorn while other dishes are just more flavorful.

How much Bacon Up should I use?

For deep-frying, pan-frying, and general sautéing, the conversion rate for Bacon Up and traditional cooking oil, butter or shortening is 1 to 1. So, if a recipe calls for a ½ cup of butter, use ½ cup of Bacon Up. One tablespoon of olive oil? Use one tablespoon of Bacon Up.

For baked goods, our rule of thumb is to use Bacon Up as a substitute for 1/2 the shortening or butter called for in the recipe. So far in our baking that has been a safe starting point, but you can experiment with variations and see what you like best. (And then let us know! We’d love to share what you think with the whole Bacon Up family!)

This is real bacon grease. I never have enough from frying bacon for frying eggs, making gravy, cooking beans or all the other things I use it for. Bacon up is awesome. My kids love it and I never run out.
