Deviled eggs made with Bacon Up
Cutting out seed oils? Or have some mayonnaise-haters in your midst?! Here’s a DELICIOUS “animal fat solution” for Deviled Eggs: Replace the mayonnaise with Bacon Up Bacon Grease! The consistency is ideal and the hint of bacon flavor makes them irresistible! Use Bacon Up instead of mayo in YOUR favorite deviled egg recipe, or try this favorite of mine. Our family loves these!

Equipment

  • Small bowl
  • Plate or deviled egg tray

Ingredients

  • 6 Hard-boiled Eggs halved length-wise
  • ¼ cup Bacon Up Bacon Grease
  • 1-½ teaspoon Mustard mix & match your favorite mustards; I love Woeber’s Mustards and blend their Dijon and Horseradish for a little kick
  • 1 teaspoon Pickle juice or Vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon If desired: Hot Pepper Sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Optional Garnishes - sprinkle with your choice of smoked paprika, parsley, dill, and/or chili powder

Optional Toppings - top with your choice of 1-2 tablespoons of bacon bits, finely sliced green onions, chopped olives, and/or chives

Instructions

  • After slicing the eggs in half, carefully remove the egg yolks and put them in a small bowl.
  • Arrange the egg whites on a plate or deviled egg tray.
  • Mash the egg yolks and stir in the Bacon Up, mustard, pickle juice, optional hot pepper sauce, salt and pepper.
  • Blend until evenly mixed and smooth.
  • Spoon the yolk mixture into the egg white halves, or transfer the yolk mixture into a small zip-top plastic bag, cut a small hole into one corner and pipe into the egg whites.
  • Chill until ready to serve and top with your choice of garnishes and toppings.

Notes

For a group, it’s fun to arrange a Deviled Egg Charcuterie Board with assorted garnishes and toppings so everyone can create their own customized eggs.
  • Keep the yolk mixture neutral (Bacon Up, yellow mustard, pickle juice and salt/pepper)
  • *OR* Offer a neutral and a spicy version (Bacon Up, spicy mustard, pickle juice, hot pepper sauce, salt, pepper, and a little bit of cayenne).
  • In addition to those listed above, toppings on the board may include pickled onions, roasted red peppers, pimento cheese, chopped or sliced radishes, cilantro, toasted sesame seeds, pico de gallo, or banana peppers.
